NDSS, the leading human rights organization for all individuals with Down syndrome, is proud to offer several scholarship opportunities for self-advocates!

NDSS O’Neill Tabani Enrichment Fund- Postsecondary Educational Programs

The mission of our NDSS O’Neill Tabani Enrichment Fund is to offer financial assistance to young adults with Down syndrome – 18 and older – who are continuing to enrich their lives by taking classes or enrolling in postsecondary educational programs. The deadline isMarch 15, 2017.

Each applicant must:

  • Have Down syndrome
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Demonstrate intent to enroll in a class or program that will enrich his or her life by helping to develop skills that will lead to employment or independent living, build life skills, or in some other way empower the individual to succeed

Grants

  • A minimum of ten grants will be awarded in amounts not exceeding $5,000 per award
  • The grant must be used to pay for the tuition for a course or postsecondary program at a local college, employment training or life skills program, or another institution that offers opportunities for growth
  • The majority of the grant must be for tuition, however, funds can be used to help with books, transportation, and other related supplies

NDSS #DSWORKS® Blake Pyron Entrepreneurship Scholarship 2017

NDSS’ #DSWORKS® Campaign is an employment initiative whose goal is whose goal is to encourage corporations and businesses to invest in hiring people with Down syndrome and increase the number of opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome to work in meaningful and competitive employment settings.

Blake Pyron, 20 years old, and is a self-advocate who is showing the world that people with Down syndrome are ready, willing and ABLE to work! Blake, with the support of his dedicated family, started his own business – Blake’s Snow Shack and Blake is the youngest business owner in his hometown of Sanger, Texas.

With the goal of supporting NDSS’ #DSWORKS® Campaign and helping self-advocates pursue their dreams of entrepreneurship, we have established the NDSS #DSWORKS® Blake Pyron Entrepreneurship Scholarship. At the 2017 Inaugural #DSWORKS® Campaign Conference and Buddy Walk® on Washington, NDSS will award a $500 scholarship to a self-advocate to support them as they pursue their aspirations to start their own business.

Each applicant must:

  • Have Down syndrome
  • Be 18 years of age or older

To apply, please provide answers to the following questions:

  • Tell us about why you want to start your own business
  • Describe your entrepreneurship and the type of business you want to establish
  • Detail why are you so passionate about this adventure
  • You must include your name, address, age, phone number and e-mail address in your application. Self-advocates may apply for themselves or have someone complete the application for them

In the subject line of the email, please include “Blake Pyron Scholarship”.

The scholarship will be awarded during our 2017 Inaugural #DSWORKS® Campaign Conference and Buddy Walk® on Washington on April 3-5, 2017 in Washington, DC.


Ethan Saylor Memorial Scholarship

Ethan Saylor lived his life to the fullest. Whether it was rocking out to music, working with law enforcement or playing the guitar, when Ethan wanted to do something, nothing stopped him. Each year at the Buddy Walk® on Washington, NDSS awards a $500 scholarship to an individual who embodies the same energy that Ethan embodied. The scholarship is designed to give individuals with Down syndrome a means to pursue their own passions, regardless of any perceived limitations. This award will be given to an individual who displays the same drive and determination to pursue their dreams.

Each applicant must:

  • Have Down syndrome
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Intend to pursue a passion

To apply, in 500 words or less, tell us about your passions, dreams and how you would use the Ethan Saylor Memorial Scholarship to make your dreams a reality. In the application, please be sure to include your name, address, age, phone number and e-mail address. Self-advocates may apply for themselves or have someone else complete the application.
